COLUMBIA, S.C. March 21 2008 — Police say that they were called to an area middle school when two teachers got into a confrontation and began to fight in the middle of a school hallway.
Two female middle school teachers were jailed for that confrontation that officers say happened in front of students.
Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott says 30-year-old Tawana Horton and 28-year-old Cambrella Pinckney bumped into each other Friday at Saint Andrews Middle School and began fighting. The public school teachers were arrested Wednesday and charged with disturbing schools.
It’s unclear whether they have attorneys.
The sheriff’s department says the teachers have been placed on administrative leave.
It appears that the two teachers had some kind of on going problem with the other teacher and it all kind of boiled over on Friday authorities said.
School district spokeswoman Karen York would not discuss any specific disciplinary action taken against the teachers. But she says the district is investigating.

School employee admits to theft of over $306,000 by; Rick McCann www.privateofficer.com

Scottsdale AZ. March 21 2008
A Scottsdale-schools employee who denied in June when she was arrested after a lengthy police investigation that she had embezzled $306,000 from school funds to pay gambling debts has now pleaded guilty to the theft.
Authorities say that Janet Winkler Rice, 60, has now admitted that she did indeed steal funds from the school system and is expected to be sentenced May 27 in Maricopa County Superior Court.
Rice was arrested after Scottsdale detectives discovered “evidence of a destructive gambling habit” in her records. Investigators say Rice had embezzled about $306,000 since November 2005.
Rice could face more than twenty years in prison on the charges.
It was not known if she had an attorney in this matter.

Students charged with robbery after theft of shoes www.privateofficer.com

Students charged with robbery for theft of shoes www.privateofficer.com

Montgomery County MD. March 21 2008

Three Clarksburg High School students face robbery and theft charges after police say they took another student’s shoes in the front hallway of the school last week.
The incident occurred at 11:20 a.m. March 12, said Lucille Baur, a spokeswoman for Montgomery County Police.
Lewis Helms III, 18, of Clarksburg is charged as an adult with strong-arm robbery and theft under $500 and faces a maximum penalty of 18 months in jail and⁄or a $500 fine if convicted, Baur said.
A 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy, both from Germantown, are charged as juveniles with strong-arm robbery and theft under $500, Baur said.
Police did not release the names of the juveniles and The Gazette does not name youths charged with crimes unless they are charged as adults.
The victim, a 14-year-old boy from Clarksburg, was standing in the hallway when three other students approached him, Baur said. He was not injured during the incident, she added.
‘‘They said they were going to take something from him,” Baur said. ‘‘They originally took a wallet, but the victim chased after them and asked for the wallet back. They returned the wallet, but then it occurred to one of the suspects to take his shoes.”
The shoes were Converse Chuck Taylor-brand sneakers. The sneakers can range in price from $45 to $295, depending on the style, according to the Converse Web site.
Police do not know if anything was taken from the wallet.
Principal James Koutsos would not comment on the possibility of disciplinary action for the students allegedly involved in the incident or talk about whether this was the first time an incident of this type happened at the school.
He said no student has talked to him about feeling unsafe, but some parents have contacted him about safety at the school.
‘‘I have received a number of e-mails and I have had a number of discussions with parents that have expressed concern,” Koutsos said. ‘‘We tried to assure them this was an isolated incident. For the most part, the community has been supportive of how we addressed the issue.”
Koutsos sent home a letter to parents the next day indicating three students were arrested and charged in a disciplinary matter, but the letter does not discuss details of the incident.
Terry Strauss, the president of the Clarksburg High School PTSA, said he believes the school security team is doing a good job, but that a few more people should be added to the detail.
He said no parents have told him they think the school is unsafe.
‘‘It was somebody taking somebody’s sneakers,” Strauss said. ‘‘It was people they knew, so it wasn’t strangers doing it. Kids were playing jokes on each other and it got out of hand.”
Baur said a school security officer notified the educational facilities officer of the incident, but she said police do not know if the security officer witnessed it.

Woman arrested for luring teenage boys for sex www.privateofficer.com

WELLINGTON Fla. March 21 2008 – A 31-year-old woman under investigation was arrested Wednesday for allegedly having sex with a teenager, and detectives believe there may be other victims.
Jill Goldsmith was charged with lewd or lascivious battery and making false statements.
She is scheduled to make a court appearance for bond Thursday morning.
Goldsmith, who worked at a dry cleaner business, allegedly gave drugs to the teenagers she hung out with in exchange for sex, Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Paul Miller said
The word got around that she would be available and supply them with drugs,” Miller said.
“It’s probably the tip of a little bit of an iceberg with her…This seems like a continuing thing with more than one young man. It wasn’t a one time deal” Miller said.
Investigators are trying to find others who were also propisitioned or supplied drugs by Goldsmith and other charges could follow authorities said.

Teen robbers prowling for victims arrested www.privateofficer.com

Teen robbers prowling for victims arrested www.privateofficer.com

Richmond CA. March 20 2008
Three teen-age boys took a car that belonged to one of their mothers, drove to a mall and robbed a man at gunpoint Monday afternoon, Richmond police said.
The robbery occurred shortly after 2 p.m. in the parking lot of the Pacific East Mall, at 3288 Pierce St., near Central Avenue, according to Richmond police Lt. Mark Gagan.
Gagan said the three boys — who were between 15 and 17 years old and from Richmond, Pinole and El Sobrante — threatened the victim, a 22-year-old Richmond man, with a sawed-off shotgun.
Afterward, the three suspects left the mall and used the man’s credit cards to make several purchases.
“They got gasoline and food,” Gagan said.
When the credit cards stopped working, the teens reportedly returned to the mall about 3:30 p.m., most likely to rob somebody else, Gagan said. The victim from the earlier robbery was still at the mall when the teens returned, however, and was able to identify them.
“He saw them and called us,” he said. “When we made contact, they were still by the vehicle. They were caught before they were able to rob anyone else.”
The shotgun used in the robbery was found in their car, Gagan said.
The boys were arrested and booked into juvenile hall in Martinez on suspicion of armed robbery.

Suspicous persons flee from SRO www.privateofficer.com

Suspicous persons flee from school resource officer www.privateofficer.com

Bradley County Tn March 20 2008
According to the Bradley County Sheriff’s department, deputies took a man into custody today and are looking for a second after the pair fled on foot when the School Resource Officer at Valley View Elementary School approached them.
SRO Nathan Headrick was notified of two men that were walking on Springplace Road near the school who were obstructing traffic. After observing their activities for several minutes and seeing that motorists were being forced to take evasive actions to avoid an accident, Deputy Headrick approached the two men.
Both ran from Deputy Headrick and he was able to apprehend Cory L. Dosier in a field beside the school. The accomplice turned and ran back toward the campus but eluded arrest.
Other units from the sheriff’s office responded and conducted a search of a large area surrounding the school but with no success.
The school was placed under lock-down for a brief period of time while the second suspect was being sought.
Sheriff Tim Gobble said, “This is the reason we have School Resource Officers to keep our school campuses safe.” Gobble says the faculty, staff and students at Valley View Elementary School were never in any danger from this morning’s incident.
Dosier, who is 18 and gave an address of East Ridge when he was booked into jail, was charged with Disorderly Conduct; Resisting Stop, Frisk and Halt; Theft of Property; and False Reports, a felony.

Police officer commits suicide at headquarters www.privateofficer.com

On duty police officer commits suicide at headquarters www.privateofficer.com

BRENTWOOD, Tenn. (Nashville TN. metro) March 19 2008
Authorities in this bedroom community just south of Nashville say that they made a sad and starteling discovery Sunday just outside their doors. An officer who laid dead inside a police cruiser and now police believe that the Brentwood officer who was found dead of a gunshot wound in his cruiser committed suicide.
Larry Campbell, a 25-year veteran of this mid-sized department, was found in the parking lot of the department’s headquarters on Sunday night.
City Manager Mike Walker told The Tennessean that a six-page suicide note was found.
Campbell was married with two children. He handled traffic enforcement and accident reconstruction and had been an instructor at the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Committee.
Sunday marked his 25th anniversary with the department.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete as the department and this community stand in shock.
Police officer suicide is a frequent way of death nationwide and few have broken through the blue wall to determine the exact underlying reason.
The job takes a toll on you (Ret.)Major Mike Matthews told me. It’s something that will eat at you. All of the things that you see out on the street in a few short years most people will never see or experience their life time.
The fact that the officer chose the department parking lot says a lot adds Chaplain Murphy, a long time police and fire chaplain. He was sending a message. A strong message and I’ve seen that in other officer suicides.
No one except the Brentwood Police Department knows what was in the lengthy suicide note but he had a lot to say to someone and he wanted to be heard and maybe felt that for once and for all, this was the way that he would be Matthews said. It’s a sad ending to such a long dedicated career with the city and for the citizens of the community to loose a faithful public servant, it’s really devastating, sad and a loss for all, Chaplain Murphy added.
God rest his soul the Chaplain said, his head hanging low as he stared at the ground in a moment of silence.

School resource officer aids in arrest of drug dealing janitor www.privateofficer.com

School resource officer aids in arrest of drug dealing janitor www.privateofficer.com

Dover DE. March 19 2008
A 45-year-old elementary school custodian was arrested after police found several pounds of marijuana and Vicodin pills in his Chevrolet Blazer parked in the Richardson Park Elementary School lot, state police said Monday.
Police said they found no evidence that James A. Hill, 45, of Bear, was dealing drugs to students at the school, located at 16 Idella Ave. in Wilmington.
“There is no indication that any children witnessed or were involved, for that matter, in his dealings,” said Cpl. Jeff Whitmarsh, a state police spokesman. Hill was a night custodian and had little contact with students.
School Principal Angela Frey deferred comment to Red Clay Consolidated School District officials.
Brian Moore, the district’s manager of facilities, said there is always a concern when such a crime occurs.
“Any time you have an incident like that, there is a heightened sense of awareness,” Moore said. “We’ll continue to reinforce with our employees that if you see a suspicious something with an employee, in a student, even in a parent — if you see something suspicious, notify someone and allow them to investigate it.”
Hill was hired by the district in 1995 and had worked at the school since, Moore said.
According to court records, Hill was convicted of several crimes, including third-degree burglary in 1982 and 1994 and theft and second-degree conspiracy in 1990.
Moore said the district does criminal background checks as required by the state.
“Just because you are convicted of committing a crime doesn’t preclude you from service in a school district,” he said. “There are certain crimes that the state code says you cannot work in a school.”
Those crimes include drug convictions and crimes related to juveniles.
According to Whitmarsh, a school resource officer assigned to the Red Clay district was contacted by district officials Thursday and told that a Richardson Park elementary night custodian was acting strangely. He allegedly was making frequent trips to his Blazer and seen engaging in hand-to-hand transactions in the school parking lot.
The apparent deals were taking place at night when no students were at the school, Whitmarsh said.
The school resource officer called members of the Governors Task Force who began investigating Hill.
Police and probation officers met with Hill and searched his Blazer in the school parking lot and found four pounds of marijuana, packaging material and 20 Vicodin pills.
Troopers worked with school officials and narcotics-trained dogs and conducted sweeps of the school after hours and did not find other contraband.
Hill was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle for keeping narcotics and possession with the intent to deliver narcotics.
After posting $12,000 unsecured bail, Hill was released. His court date is pending.

Teacher arrested for exposing himself at mall www.privateofficer.com

Teacher arrested for exposing himself at mall www.privateofficer.com

Nassau County NY. March 19 2008

The Uniondale math teacher charged with exposing himself to a 13-year-old boy in a bathroom in Roosevelt Field Mall last weekend told detectives he had done so many times before, police said Monday.

During an interrogation, David Martz, 31, of Levittown, said he had exposed himself on other occasions in the same bathroom at the mall and in other public rest.rooms, police said. Martz does not have a criminal record.”He indicated that he has strong sexual feelings toward young men,” Det. Lt. Raymond Cote, commanding officer of the Nassau Third Squad, said at a news conference Monday. “He told my detectives that he’s done this before. Unfortunately, he was not uncomfortable with that .
The latest victim, who was at the mall with his family, entered the bathroom at about 2 p.m. Saturday, Cote said. While he was at a urinal, he noticed the man next to him was staring at him and became uncomfortable, Cote said.”While he [the victim] was washing his hands, Mr. Martz intentionally turned around and masturbated while staring at him,” Cote said. The boy rushed out and Martz followed, asking if he wanted to “go somewhere,” Cote said.
Security officials detained Martz until police arrested him.
Martz pleaded not guilty to endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of public lewdness at his arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead, court officials said. He posted bail later that day.The married father of two has taught in the Uniondale school district for more than eight years, police said.
The district said in a statement that Martz, a math teacher at Turtle Hook Middle School on Jerusalem Avenue, was reassigned to his house Monday and barred from entering school grounds.Martz, who has also worked for 13 years for the Boys and Girls Club of Oyster Bay-East Norwich, was suspended without pay from club facilities.”The organization was deeply disturbed,” co-president Roger Bahnik said in a statement.
No one ever complained to the club about Martz, Bahnik said.
